• Water: How much should you drink a day?

    A bit like nutrition, we’ve heard it all before when it comes to the importance of hydration, but it keeps being highlighted for very good reason – hydration is key for all of us (and sometimes it's good to be reminded of this)

    Hydration plays a pivotal role in both fat loss and muscle gain, a hydrated cell works more efficiently and is better primed to burn fat and make energy.

    Hydration also plays a massive role in digestion, energy levels and mood. Mid-afternoon brain fog isn’t uncommon for a lot of people, and it can be eradicated quite simply with adequate hydration.

    How much water is enough?

    Exactly how much we need to drink is open to debate, and like anything, you can overdo it, but for most of us it is more than we currently drink.

    One way to look at it is, is if it’s clear and copious, you’re probably drinking enough…!

    A more calculated way to look at it is - drink a litre of water per 25kg of bodyweight, so if you weigh 50kg that's around 2 litres of water per day and if you weigh closer to 75kg you should be drinking broadly 3 litres per day.

    If this is more than you are used to, it is probably wise to step your intake up slowly.

    Whilst Volvic is clearly looking to make money, the sentiment rings true with their advert of drinking 1.5 litres a day for 14 days to see how much better you feel.

    You’ll be surprised as to how vital water is for everyday activity; you will feel better, have more energy and your day will be more productive.

    Buy a 2 litre bottle (or 2 if your required amount is more) in the morning and make sure it’s drunk by the time you leave work.

    Don’t take our word for it, give it a try and see how you feel.
